Over 50-thousand third level applicants across Ireland will receive their first round CAO offers this morning – the highest number ever.
Demand for science and technology courses is expected to have grown considerably this year.
A record number of Leaving Cert students got 25 bonus points for passing higher level maths and this is being linked to a rise in the points needed for technology-related courses.
There have also been increases in the points required for architecture and engineering courses, reflecting a renewed confidence in the construction sector.
This is reflected at Letterkenny Institute of Technology, where there are increases in the points requirements for courses such as Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering and Architectural Technology.

One of the sharpest rises in points requirements at Letterkenny IT is the Level 8 Degree Course in Computing with Cloud and Green Information Technology. In total, 35% of courses at Letterkenny IT have seen their points requirements rise. As ever, the highest points requirements are for nursing courses, which are broadly similar to last year.
