Oisin and James were the most popular boy’s baby names in Donegal in 2014.
Emily and Ella were tied as the most popular names in the county for Girls last year, replacing Sophie which was most popular in 2013.
The most popular names across the country were Emily and James. Incidentally, the most popular names chosen by parents fifty years earlier in 1964 were John and Mary.
The CSO figures show that last year in Donegal, 1,883 babies were born. 1009 were male while 874 were female.
37 of the children were born to mothers under 20 however the majority of babies born in Donegal were to women in their early 30s
38% of children born last year were to parents neither married or in a civil partnership.
