County Council asked to give commercial rates

Retail Ireland is calling on all local authorities to give retailers a 10 per cent rebate on commercial rates bill.

The group says such a measure is necessary given that thousands of retail jobs have been lost over the last year and retailers are struggling to avoid further redundancies.

Chairperson Torlach Denihan says the pay of local authority staff has been cut by Government and those savings should be passed on in order to reduce commercial rates.
