Met Eireann has issued a sever weather warning for the north west with heavy snow showers and freezing temperatures expected over night (Thursday).
Donegal County Council says it is prepared as best as can be for the weather but has advised motorists to avoid any unnecessary travel and to take extra care on the roads in the morning.
Senior Engineer with the council is Michael McGarvey:
meanwhile the Environment Minister John Gormley says he’s to make an extra 15 million euro available to local authorities struggling to cope with the weather.
It comes as the Minister for Transport insists every effort is being made to keep national roads open.
