Childrens MInister Francis Fitzgerald says she hopes the long awaited Childrens Referendum will be held within a year.
Ms Fitzgerald is in Donegal for a series of engagements, earlier today she attended an Early Childcare Conference in Ballybofey, and this afternoon she met with the Donegal Youth Council.
Earlier today, the Fianna Fail Children’s Spokesperson Donegal Deputy Charlie Mc Conalogue said Minister Fitzgerald’s visit to the Donegal conference would be the ideal opportunity to announce a date.
Speaking to Highland Radio News this afternoon, Ms Fitzgerald said the referendum is a priority.
She said the fact that children have now been given a specific cabinet post shows how seriously the government is taking their needs…………
