There were 21,727 people signing on in the county at the end of April, up 16 on the previous month, and up 731 on April 2010, a year on year increase of 3.5%.
The biggest increase was recorded in Letterkenny, where there were 6,123 up 9.1% on the April 2010 figure. The affect of job losses in South and South West Donegal is evident with confirmation that there were 1,578 on the register in Ballyshannon, up 7.2%. Meanwhile, an increase of 7% was recorded in Killybegs, with an end of April total of 1,350.
in Donegal Town, there were 1,408 signing on, up 2.5%, Ballybofey saw 2,639 on the register, up 2.2%, while there were 1,591 signing on in Dunfanaghy, up 1.4%.
Two offices recorded decreases, with 2,186 people signing on in Dungloe, down 2.3%, and 4,852 on the register in Buncrana, down just under 1%.
