Derry City Manager Declan Devine has been praising his player’s commitment after Monday’s win over Shamrock Rovers in the Setanta Cup. The defending champions are facing an uphill task if they’re to reach this year’s decider after the Hoops suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Derry in the first-leg of their semi-final. Rovers were down to ten-men after just 12 minutes when goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse fouled David McDaid inside the area. McDaid’s penalty was saved, but Derry captain Kevin Deery scored from the rebound and further goals from Patrick McEleney and Ryan McBride gave the Candystripes a sizable first-leg lead to defend at the Brandywell next Monday.
