Donegal County Council is to look into how it can support two divers who are currently undergoing specialist training which will allow them dive to depths of up to 100 metres.
At present, divers are limited to 45 metres, but when fully qualified, Gus O’Driscoll and Eoin Fogarty will be able to go more than twice as far underwater.
They hit national headlines this week when it emerged they were searching for historic golf balls in Lough Salt as part of their training.
However, Cllr Michael Mc Bride says the two have been central to search and recovery operations in Donegal for many years, and while there isn’t a specific council budget to support their work, he believes some provision should be made:
