Missing Tyrone woman arrested in Peru on drugs charges


michA 20-year-old woman whose family launched a worldwide Facebook campaign when she disappeared has been arrested by police in Peru on suspicion of trafficking $2.3 million of cocaine.

Celebrities and sports stars had taken part in the plea for information and the Irish government had become involved.
It turned out that dancer and part-time night-club hostess Michaela McCollum Connolly, from Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, has been held by Peruvian police in Lima since Tuesday.
Drug Officers belonging to the National Police of Peru made two arrests on Tuesday at Jorge Chavez airport of the south american country.
According to its official website Michaella and another woman, a British Citizen were arrested following a search of their luggage while waiting at a check in desk of the airline Air Europa.
They were intending on travelling to Madrid and then on to Mallorca.
Cocaine, the website said, was hidden in 34 packets of food products.
20-year-old Michaella who had been working in Ibiza, was reported missing last week after her family had not heard from her for about 11 days.
