CCC say County Final to go ahead as planned

Michael Murphy RulesIreland’s International Rules captain Michael Murphy is facing a dilemma after the Donegal county board last night turned down a request to move the final of their senior football championship.
Murphy’s Glenswilly club will face Killybegs on Sunday, October 20th, which is the day after Ireland’s first test against Australia.
Reports on Tuesday suggested that Glenswilly were seeking to move the game to the Friday the 25th while the county board had contacted Ulster about moving the first round of the clubs championship.
In a statement released last night the Donegal CCC said –  “they considered a request from CLG Glenswilly to reschedule the 2013 County Senior Championship Final.
Having considered all the major factors involved, the CCC has concluded that the final will go ahead as planned on Sunday October 20th. We fully understand and appreciate CLG Glenswilly’s desire to accommodate their player and Donegal Captain Michael Murphy but regrettably no practical solution that would resolve all the associated difficulties surrounding the current circumstances has presented itself.
The CCC would however like to wish Michael Murphy and the Ireland team every success in the International Rules Series.”
Murphy is now expected to line-out for Glenswilly, which would mean that he’s likely to miss the opening test at Kingspan Breffni Park.
