Companies threaten to withdraw from ESB if workers go ahead with strike action

Power offRetailers are threatening to withdraw en masse from ESB if workers at the company go ahead with strike action planned for next month.
Retail Excellence Ireland says trading over the Christmas period is vital to the sector and should the planned industrial action go ahead they will withdraw all business in the New Year and move to a more market focused energy provider.
Unions and management have been invited to talks later this week in the row over the pension deficit at the company.  However, the Union claims the company has yet to accept the invitation.
But David Fitzsimmons of Retail Excellence says staff at ESB are being totally unrealistic and he has accused them of holding the country to ransom:
