Ulster Ladies’ Senior Championship semi-final result: Donegal 1-08 v 1-09 Cavan
Donegal are out of the Ulster Ladies Senior Championship following Saturday’s narrow defeat by Cavan, in Killyclogher, Tyrone.
Cavan won 1-9 to 1-8 as they held on in the closing minutes after Donegal staged a final quarter revival as the reigning champions came from three points down.
Donegal, short up to seven of the side that captured that first half Ulster crown last summer, struggled to find their rhythm in the first-half and trailed by two points at half-time.
Cavan led 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval after the sides were level three times in the opening 25 minutes before Cavan hit two late points.
Amber Barrett, Karen Guthrie and Yvonne McMonagle scores frees while Aisling Doonan (3) all frees, Amy Rooney and Caitriona Smith posted Cavan points.
Donegal did up their game in the second period and an Amber Barrett goal propelled them into a 1-6 to 0-8 lead with 10 minutes remaining and after they had fallen three points down.
But the lead lasted just a minute as Amy Rooney hit the net at the other end for a 1-8 to 1-6 lead for Cavan.
Donegal pressed in the closing 10 minutes but two Yvonne McMonagle points to one from Doonan meant Cavan held on for the one point win.
Donegal will now turn their attention to the All Ireland Championship series and next month’s Qualifiers.
Cavan will face Monaghan in the Ulster final.
