Derry city cemetery targeted once again in latest spate of vandalism

A number of graves have been damaged in the city cemetery in Derry overnight.
It’s understood a number of youths were involved in the vandalism which occurred in the lower part of the cemetery at approx. 9pm last night.
The youths, believed to be between 13 and 16 years of age, were damaging headstones when they were spotted by security staff.
They then fled the scene, and ran off in the Southway direction.
This is the latest incident in a spate of vandalism at the cemetery in just a number of months – last month up to 20 headstones and graves were damaged.
Police are investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Strand road police station on the non-emergency number 101.
