Donegal mother’s son denied Irish passport


A Donegal mother who has had a baby with her wife in the UK has been refused an Irish passport for her new-born son because of her gender.
Spealing on the Nine Til Noon show, Kate Gallagher, 34 originally from Gaoth Dobhair outlined how she received a letter from the Irish Passport and Visa Office denying a passport for her son Griffin because she is technically not considered either his mother or father.
This is despite Kate’s own fertilised egg being implanted in her wife’s womb as part of IVF.
