EU Chief Brexit Negotiator to visit Derry


The EU’s Chief Brexit negotiator will visit Derry tomorrow as part of a two day visit to Ireland which begins today.
Michel Barnier will attend a number of events on both sides of the border.
The rhetoric on Brexit and the border stepped up a notch over the weekend.
Michel Barnier the EU’s chief Brexit Negotiator insisted in a newspaper article that there would be no withdrawal agreement with the UK without a “back stop ” solution to the border.
He also stated discussions are ongoing and substantial progress on the issue would need to be seen in time for a European Council Meeting in June.
While the Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said the EU would not allow a situation where everything else is concluded except the border issue.
Michel Barnier will meet the Taoiseach and Tanaiste today before addressing the All Ireland Civic Dialogue in Dundalk. He’ll then travel to Newry for more discussions while tomorrow he will then travel to Derry meet cross border groups and business stakeholders.
