Attempts to grow the town centre in Letterkenny too quickly have resulted in a counter effect of decline.
That’s one of the findings in the Letterkenny 2040 regeneration plan which is due to go out to public consultation next month.
The plan will look at redevelopment of the town centre, focusing on improvement at key areas with Lower Main Street identified as a major black spot of decline.
The area is home to a large number of apartment blocks, former Town Councillor Jim Lynch previously flagged this as being a potential problem before they were given the go ahead:
