Pringle calls for urgent review of disabled drivers’ scheme

A Donegal TD has called for an urgent review into the Disabled Drivers and Passengers Scheme, after all members on the board of the Disabled Drivers Medical Board of Appeal resigned late last year.

It’s understood the board members, who take decisions on applications to the Disabled Drivers and Passengers Scheme, withdrew after a number of concerns were raised regarding the eligibility threshold to qualify for it – with only five percent of all appeals being successful.

Those wishing to appeal also must travel to Dun Laoghaire in Dublin for a hearing, regardless of their location.

Deputy Thomas Pringle says that the current scheme is archaic, and not fit for purpose……..
