Irish fisheries delegation in Brussels today to demand better catch quotas

An Irish fisheries delegation is in Brussels today, asking for Ireland to be allocated a fairer share of the European Union’s fish quotas.

The delegation consists of politicians as well as fisheries representatives and workers.

At present, Ireland is only allowed to catch 15 percent of the fish in its exclusive economic zone.

Gerard Kelly is a local fisherman in Donegal and one of those present in Brussels today.

He told Greg Hughes on today’s Nine til Noon Show that the current EU fish quota for Ireland has led to shrinking opportunities for the Irish fisheries sector – and that EU representatives have promised to visit Ireland to try and better understand the Irish fishing economy:
