Calls within Fianna Fail for Bertie Ahern to rejoin party

There are calls from within Fianna Fail to allow Bertie Ahern back into the party.

A meeting of the parliamentary party heard contributions to allow the former Taoiseach to rejoin ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement next year, according to the Irish Examiner.

Donegal Senator Niall Blaney is reported to have called on the party to act in a spirit of inclusivity in terms of Mr Ahern’s contribution in achieving peace.

Mr Ahern resigned from the party in 2012 following the Mahon Tribunal.
