Highland Radio are delighted to partner with Coimisiún na Meán in launching a new series dealing with various topics on sustainability.
Donna-Marie Doherty of Highland Radio will have a weekly feature on Tuesdays at 12:30 covering a real mix of different topics and interviews with businesses and experts who have a common interest on expertise in sustainability.
Coimisiún na Meán stated; ‘”Ours to Protect”, is a unique and exciting audio project – a collaboration of local and regional broadcasters from across the country who have come together to tackle climate change, champion climate action, and inform and educate audiences all over Ireland about how they can make a difference.’
This week Highland Radio spoke to Vyvienne Long, the artist behind ‘You’re the Reason Our World Is Warming’ which was released on World Earth Day:

World Earth Day takes place annually on the 22nd of April.
The first time it was celebrated was in 1970.
This year there was a push on the Global Plastics Treaty > https://action.earthday.org/global-plastics-treaty
Some of the Treaty Goals include:
- See a 60% reduction of all fossil fuel-based plastic production by 2040.
- Ban all plastic-related tobacco products including, but not limited to tobacco filters and e-cigarettes.
- Ban the export of plastic waste
- End the incineration of plastic waste
You’re the Reason Our World is Warming, Vyvienne Long
A green take on the 70’s song first released by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty called ‘You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly’.
Vyvienne Long accompanied by Fiachna Ó Braonáin poke fun at each other for all the reasons they are contributing to climate crisis.
Long says she wanted to keep the lighthearted nature of the dong in a bid to reach audiences with the important message that more needs to be done at home to lower our collective carbon footprint.
