Crossan presents Assembly Speaker with a petition calling for an increase in Carers’ Allowance

The Stormont Assembly has been told that almost half of Northern Ireland’s family carers are living below the poverty line at a time when they are saving the economy millions.

West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan told the Assembly that Carers’ Allowance is totally inadequate, and it’s vital that a Carers’ Recognition Payment be paid immediately.

This, he says, would be a first step in what must be a process of bringing in a fairer and more equitable Carers’ Allowance which recognises the work that unpaid carers do on a regular basis…………….
