Nearly 300 arrested for using a phone while driving over Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland

294 drivers were arrested for using a phone while behind the wheel, over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

180 were arrested for driving while intoxicated, after gardai carried out over 4,900 drug and alcohol tests.

3,886 drivers were detected speeding during the garda road safety campaign which ran from last Thursday until this morning.

Three people died on the roads during that period, while there were 11 serious collisions.
