GAELIC GAMES

Donegal will have a team in the the MacRory Cup Final – the top Ulster secondary schools Gaelic football competition –  for the first time since 1961.

That’s because yesterday evening Southwest Donegal defeated the defending champions Omagh CBS by 2-7 to 1-7 in Healy Park in Omagh.

A late goal from Patrick O’Donnell sealed the victory with the other goal for Southwest coming from Darragh Hennigan.

The win means that Shay Murrins’ side will now face Abbey Vocational School of Donegal Town in the semi-final next Saturday in Fr. Tierney Park in Ballyshannon at 2.00 pm.

With two Donegal teams in one semi-final, that means one will be in the final – against the winners of the other semi-final between St Patrick’s of Armagh and St Patrick’s of Maghera.
