Sean Houston scored twice as Finn Harps got the better of Sligo Rovers at Finn Park on Friday night.
Finn Harps 3
Sligo Rovers 0
It was Harps’ best performance of the season against a Sligo side who had been going so well in recent weeks.
However, Sligo were brought back down to earth with a bump by Harps who went in front on 17 minutes. Gareth Harkin provided the pass and Houston had time and space before placing his shot past Michael Schlingermann.
Three minutes into the second half it was 2-0. This time Dave Scully slipped Ryan Curran through on goal and he beat the Sligo keeper with a wonderful finish.
Schlingermann was at fault for the third goal. He dropped a free kick delivered into the box by Tommy McMonagle and Houston was able to steer the loose ball into the empty net.
Harps were good value for their victory – their biggest since their return to the Premier Division.
It was the perfect result ahead of the mid-season break.
