New housing waiting list proposals may reduce refusals – Slowey

It’s being suggested that new rules for administering waiting lists for social housing will cut the number of potential tenants turning down homes.
Under the changes those who are lower down the list can boost their chances by asking to live in less popular areas.
The Housing Minister hopes the move will dramatically decrease the amount of refusals – the Irish Times revealed last year that nearly 2-thousand housing offers were rejected, 183 of them in Donegal.
Cllr Terence Slowey is Caothairleach of Donegal County Council – He says the model, which emphasises consultation and choice, is being piloted in South Dublin, and has also been used in parts of Donegal……..
