Hikers rescued from Donegal Mountain after 10 hour operation

Donegal Mountain rescue has confirmed that two hikers have been brought to safety following a major rescue operation overnight in the Derryveagh Mountains.
The extensive mission lasted around ten hours.
A man and a woman, thought to be from Northern Ireland, were on the mountain most of the day.
However, as conditions worsened yesterday afternoon, they become lost in the mountains and raised the alarm.
Due to the difficult conditions, two rescue teams were dispatched, one team approaching from the Dunlewey direction and the other from Doochary.
It took the teams over six hours to reach the couple with volunteers having to use ropes to rescue them from their location on the mountain.
It took a further three and a half hours for the two teams to bring the man and woman safely off the mountain. Their efforts were greatly impacted by poor visibility.
The teams made a safe return at around 11pm last night with the entire operation officially stood down at 3am this morning
