A man has appeared at Buncrana Court this morning charged with dangerous driving causing the death of eight people.
22 year-old Shaun Kelly of Hill Road, Buncrana was arrested this morning as part of the garda investigation in the Inishowen tragedy.
It was the single biggest loss of life in a road traffic collision in the history of the state.
Shaun Kelly was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the two car crash which occurred on the Buncrana to Clonmany road on July 11th 2010.
Seven men, ranging in age from 19 to 23, were killed when the car they were in, driven by Mr Kelly, collided with a Toyota Corolla.
Those who died were 21 year-old Eamon McDaid of Ballymagan, Buncrana, PJ McLaughlin, 21, of Burnfoot, 19 year-old Ciaran Sweeney of Ballyliffin, 23 year-old James McEleney of Clonmany, Mark McLaughlin, 21, of Fahan, 19 year-old Paul Doherty of Ballyliffin and Damien McLaughlin aged 21 of Buncrana.
66 year old Hughie Friel of Urris, who was driving the Corolla was also killed in the crash.
This morning Shaun Kelly was charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of 8 people, he was remanded on bail to appear before Buncrana District Court on the 8th of December.
