Cast iron guarantee sought over no winter blackouts

A Donegal Deputy has pressed for a cast iron guarantee that there won’t be any electricity blackouts this winter.

It’s after a new report from EirGrid this week warned of a shortfall in supply over the next five winters.

Speaking in the Dail, Deputy Pearse Doherty says the prospect of shortages combined with a rise in energy costs generally is causing concern:

Responding Leo Varadkar says he’s confident that there will be enough power despite the grid being stretched.

However he wouldn’t give a guarantee on the matter:
