The Government is describing today as a significant day for the country as details of the National Development Plan will be unveiled this afternoon.
It will reveal which capital projects will be prioritised over the next ten years in terms of transport, housing and water infrastructure.
There are fears in Donegal that the promised 2:1 split in favour of public transport may disadvantage the county which is totally dependent on it’s road network, however, Minister Michael McGrath says road projects will not be sacrificed:
The Twin Towns Bypass, Letterkenny-Manorcunningham and Manorcunnigham – Lifford roads and the A5 are among a number of road projects expected to be included in the plan.
However, Green Party leader Eamon Ryan says not every road project in the new National Development Plan is guaranteed to happen:
The Plan will recognise that Letterkenny, along with Derry City and Strabane, functions as a cross-border city region.
Several cross-border projects are also set to be progressed including the North-West Greenway, improved access to health services on a cross-border basis; and increased linkages between higher education institutions.
Killybegs harbour is also set to receive ongoing investment as part of a €180m capital investment.
While specific projects within the plan will also include the ongoing improvement of visitor facilities at Glenveagh National Park.
