Social housing limits to increase in just five counties

House Key

An increasing number of households are set to be driven into a crisis situation following a decision by the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien to announce an increase to social housing income limits for only five counties.

The eligiblity threshold is not being raised in Donegal.

People Before Profit said the failure by the Minister to raise thresholds in most counties will result in more households suffering unnecessarily.

The party’s housing spokesperson said the government broke a promise made earlier this year to announce increases in the income threshold before the Dáil summer recess

Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett described the move as disgraceful leaving thousands of people on low and middle incomes “completely shafted”.
