Ireland women get promoted as McLaughlin and Toland feature in Albania

The Republic of Ireland women’s team are guaranteed at least a play off for the 2025 European Championship after winning their Nations League ‘B’ group with two games to spare.

The Girls in Green won 1-nil in a rain soaked Albania thanks to a late goal by Denise O’Sullivan.

Donegal’s Erin McLaughlin had her first competitive start for the Irish while Tyler Toland started in the middle of park as the game was held up for an hour and a half due to the torrential weather.

Northern Ireland midfielder Diane Maxwell proved the accidental hero for THE Republic last night.

Her goal ten minutes from time not only saw her side salvage a 1-1 draw with Hungary but it meant the Republic were promoted to League A of the Nations League.

The top 8 teams in League ‘A’ next year will secure places at the finals in Switzerland.
