Concerns has been expressed that an ongoing discussion about a by-pass of Bridgend could lead to development being hindered and land effectively being sterilised for planning purposes.
Cllr Paul Canning told a recent meeting of Inishowen Municipal District that a time limit should be put on the process, and if funding is not received within five years, then planning restrictions should be lifted.
He says ongoing conversation is needed with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the government, to ensure that if a by-pass route is finalised and given planning, then funding should be received and the work started within five years.
He says in the Twin Towns, land was sterilised for decades while they waited for a by-pass, and that cannot be allowed happen in Bridgend……………
