The Government has approved the next phase of radar systems for the Defence Forces.
Under the over €300 million scheme, Ireland will acquire long-range military radar for the first time, with the capability expected from 2028.
The first of the systems is to be delivered next year.
It’s anticipated the radar will monitor both air and sea activity.
The case for radar was a major part of the Commission on the Defence Forces report.
