The latest recordings from Anglo Irish Bank have turned the spotlight on AIB.
The tapes, published in today’s Irish Independent, reveal a conversation between the then CEO David Drumm and senior executive John Bowe.
Mr. Drumm says Bank of Ireland believed that AIB and Anglo were “lending money to every cowboy in town”.
Deputy Business Editor with the Sunday Independent is Tom Lyons. He says the latest revelations will make for uncomfortable reading for former AIB Chief Executive Eugene Sheehy.
“If you look at Eugene Sheehy, the bank’s chief executive, we’re paying him a pension of about a quarter of a million a year – he’s enjoying being a mature student at the moment” he said.
“I think he deserves at least some time in the sunlight and in the spotlight where people can ask him so really tough questions” he added.
