Council says it’s wrong to suggest it has failed to submit info on a zoning review

Donegal County Council says it is wrong to suggest it has failed to submit information on a zoning review to the government.
Minister Jan O’Sullivan said not enough councils had published reviews and dezoned land which was zoned residential, with Donegal listed among those yet to comply.
Donegal County Council was named yesterday as one of eight which have not submitted their reviews as required under the 2010 amendments to Planning leglislation.
However, a Donegal County Council spokesperson says the authority’s response is not needed until a new Development Plan is agreed later this year.
Officials are in the process of completing the statutory review of the plan, and the new Donegal County Development Plan 2012-2018 is required tro be adopted in the summer. The zoning provisions in that will, according to the council, satisify the requirements of the legislation.
Sources within the council have also indicated that zoning ghas not been an issue in Donegal, and there should not be any significant dezoning required in the county.
This issue is not related to the government’s internal review of planning in seven local authorities, including Donegal County Council.
