Local representatives say flood prevention must be made a priority

Following serious flooding in Donegal Town, Ballybofey, Letterkenny, Castlefinn and other parts of Donegal over the weekend, thoughts are turning to long term flood prevention.
Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan, who spent much of yesterday helping people affected by floods in Castlefinn and Ballybofey, says he and other local representatives will again be demanding that the OPW visit the area.
He wants the OPW to meet with local councillors and officials to discuss the possibility of dredging the Finn and other possible ideas such as local drainage schemes through farms and around towns and villages.

He says since Drainage Committees were removed from Local authorities and given to the OPW, little or nothing is being done, and that much change.
Meanwhile, Deputy Thomas Pringle, who was with residents whose homes flooded in Donegal Town over the weekend, says action is needed before this happens again…………
