
The community of Tory Island have reiterated that they will be rejecting the Queen of Aran ferry when it comes into service next month.
The contract for the current service is due to cease on 1st April, to be replaced by the 40 year old Queen of Aran, a vessel with which Tory Island residents are not happy with.
Following a meeting on Tuesday night on the Island, Manager of Tory Island Co-Op Marjorie Carroll says the community as a whole agreed that they will not accept the Queen of Aran which is to service the island in the 2018/2023 contract.
The community of Tory Island are to stand in unity in rejecting the Queen of Aran ferry when it is due to come into service on April 1st.
At a meeting on the island on Tuesday, it was agreed the 40 year old vessel would not be accepted to service the island.
Marjorie Carroll, Manager of Tory Island Co-Op says it was made clear at each meeting with the Department of the Gaeltacht and Government Chief Whip Minister Joe McHugh that the boat would not be accepted.
She says the public want to retain the current ferry service until the new boat which was announced by Minister McHugh in the Ireland 2040 National Plan is delivered.
Meanwhile officials of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht are due to brief the media concerning the Tory Ferry this morning at the Departments Offices in Galway.
