Gardai warn of dangers of low tyre tread depth

A teleporter driver has been issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty notice after being caught driving while holding a mobile phone.

Buncrana Roads Policing Unit also cautioned the driver in relation to the poor condition of the rear tyres.

Gardai are warning people to never hold or use your mobile phone while driving.

They say it is vital motorists are not distracted in any way whilst behind the wheel of any type of vehicle.

Motorists are urged to check tyres regularly and even more regularly when the tread depth reaches 3mm. The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm.

Gardai say the more worn your tyres become, the less grip they will have on the road surface.
