Council to spend over a billion euro on capital projects up to 2026

Donegal County Council expects to spend just over one billion and 22 million euro on capital projects between 2024 and 2026.

Chief Executive John McLaughlin says while the 2025 and 2026 figures are projections, the 2024 figures have been agreed.

When it comes to capital spending, Donegal County Council’s highest spending department in 2024 will be Housing, Corporate & Cultural Services, which will spend just over €91.6 million.

Roads and Transportation will spend just under €69 million, while almost €29.2 million will be spent by Community, Enterprise & Planning Services. This includes the urban and regional development projects in Letterkenny, Killybegs, Burtonport, and Arranmore.

Just over €13.5 million has been budgeted for Water and Environment Services, while €20.7 million will be spent by the council’s Economic Development, Information Systems & Emergency Services. This includes €9.5 million for the Alpha Project, €3.3 million for the Beta Business Centre, both in Letterkenny, and €5.6 million for the Inishowen Innovation Hub in Buncrana.

Finally, almost €25.5 million has been budgeted for the Roads Management Office.
