Homeowners await news as cabinet discusses ‘enhanced’ redress scheme

The Minister for Public Expenditure says the Mica redress scheme will be the largest of its kind in the state’s history.

Cabinet is set to sign off on the final plan for the scheme today which impacts around 7,000 homes in Donegal and Mayo.

However Limerick and Clare have since been added, bringing the estimated cost of the payout to 2.7 billion euro.

Minister Michael McGrath hopes homeowners will consider it in detail……….

On today’s Nine til Noon Show, the Chair of Donegal County Council’s Mica Redress Committee said in tandem with the new scheme, the ISO 460 protocol which assesses and categorises the damage to properties is updated to include other deleterious materials such as pyrrhotite which has been detected in blocks in Donegal and elsewhere.

Cllr Martin McDermott expects today’s cabinet decisions to be published before next week.

He says people are waiting anxiously to see what is on the table…………
