Local Property Tax will remain unchanged in Donegal.
After lengthy discussions for much of the day, Councillors voted to retain LPT at 15% above the baseline, as was implemented in 2020.
A motion to reduce the LPT to 15% below the baseline as proposed by Councillor Micheal Choilm MacGiolla Easbuig was defeated while Councillor Michael McBride’s proposal to return to the LPT baseline also fell.
A motion by Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh to retain the current rate was passed after a vote. Sinn Fein along with a number of Independents and members of the 100% Redress Party voted against the proposal.
The rate will now be retained for the next five years, something Councillor Ciaran Brogan says is significant.
