Children making their Confirmation next year will be encouraged to take a pledge not to smoke cigarettes or vape.
Up until now, the traditional pledge has only covered alcohol and drugs.
Catholic primary schools will now incorporate smoking and vaping into the pledges made by sixth-class children.
