The Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District says people using barbecues at beaches need to be aware of the serious consequences.
It comes after a serious incident was averted when Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District, Councillor Michael McClafferty came upon a disposable barbecue on fire on the grass at Killahoey beach in recent days.
Thanks to the quick actions of Councillor McClafferty and another man, the fire was extinguished.
However, Councillor McClafferty says earlier this year, a large gorse fire, thought to have been started by a campfire broke out in the same area.
