The sod has been turned to mark the beginning of works on phase two of the Derg Active projects.
The body of works, funded by the British Government and Derry City and Strabane District Council, will be carried out at Mitchell Park, the Diamond, Derg Valley Leisure Centre and Castle Park.
Mayor Cllr Ruraí McHugh turned the sod, saying he was delighted to see progress made on the eagerly awaited projects which are set to promote healthier lifestyle.
