Staffing issues leave thousands of children without vital development checks

Around 70,000 children missed crucial child development checks over the past five years.

4,876 of those were in the CHO1 area – which encompasses Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan.

The area has a 74% check rate, the second highest in Ireland.

The assessment checks a child is growing properly and reaching crucial milestones.

Mum Siubhan Ui Cheallaigh, located in one of the worse affected areas, was told her one year old daughter won’t be getting the check, due to staffing issues:
