Donegal Councillor warns of tied-up vessels amid drastic EU quota reductions


A member of the Fisheries Committee on Donegal County Council says he feels very let down by Europe.

Cllr Martin Farren says it’s difficult to know what to do when fishing vessels are set to be left tied up because of impending fishing quotas that are expected to be cut by 70% next year.

It follows reports of depleting stocks of mackerel and blue whiting due to overfishing in Irish waters by foreign vessels.

Cllr Farren questioned MEP Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan at a recent meeting about whether there will be compensation for the people who will suffer as a result:
