Illies Golden Gloves Boxing Club will host a special boxing tournament this Saturday, February 17th, to mark the club’s 25th anniversary. The event will take place in the Half Way House in Burnfoot and will feature an Illies Golden Gloves line-up in action against an Ulster/Leinster Select. Doors open at 7.30 pm with the first contest

Convoy man Luke Witherow was on the Irish team that lost 4-2 to Spain in their latest International Hockey Federation game in India. The two sides had played in the recent Olympic Qualifiers tournament in Valencia where Spain had beaten Ireland in the semi-finals. Witherow plays his club hockey for Banbridge.    

Tyrone picked up their first win in this seasons National Hurling League Division 2b thanks to a nine point win over Roscommon. It finished 0-20 to 0-11 in favour of the Red Hands. At half time, Tyrone held a 0-12 to 0-06 lead.

It was a successful day for Donegal boxers on Sunday afternoon. Molly Lafftery and Brian Anderson (Twin Towns), Rocco McDaid and Kyrin Kelly (Carndonagh), David Tennyson (Derryveagh), Rian Patton (Raphoe) and Luke Kelly (Dunfanaghy) all earned themselves victories. The event took place at the Oakleaf Boxing Club.

There was more success on Sunday for Inishowen competitors at the World Indoor Tug of War Championships in Sweden. In the men’s senior 640KG, the Irish team claimed silver with men from Clonmany B and Cockhill on the Irish Panel. The event was won by The Netherlands with Italy finishing third.

More medals are heading back to Inishowen following the latest success by an Irish team at the World Indoor Tug of War Championships in Sweden. Donegal’s Luke Witherow got some game time as a substitute for Ireland as they played the Netherlands, who are the number one ranked hockey team in the world,  in their first ever FIH Pro League game in Bhubaneswar, India on Saturday.
